We worked on a Journal to document our stay in Leon, Spain. We did ethnographic research to learn more about the town and the population. Before leaving, I wanted to study Leonese Spanish and its lexical and phonological characteristics. I was able to complete three surveys and record two recording from two interlocutors of different generations. I would have liked to have more recordings from this area of study to further verify my research. During my trip to Spain, I had limited access to a computer and had limited resources to conduct a full research project. I was able to use the computers in the library and that was a fun experience.
While in Spain, there was several instances where the languages used, was difficult to understand. I had to ask the speaker to repeat the word or to use a different word in order to explain it. The culture was similar to the American culture. I was able to fit in with the locals because our values were similar. We were all really open and friendly with one another.
I meet the outcome on MLO 5 because even though the culture was similar, it was still really different from my own. There are certain stereotypes that have a negative connotation in the United States, such as bars, which are seen as completely normal in Spain.
